Emergency Response To 2023 Turky-Syria Earthquakes
In the early morning of February 6, 2023 (local time), a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southeastern Turkey, near the border with Syria. Aftershocks continued, causing significant human and material damage in both Turkey and Syria.
As of late April, more than 50,000 people were killed in both Turkey and Syria.
Various buildings, including reinforced concrete commercial buildings, hotels, and restaurants collapsed around the epicenter. Some buildings collapsed so severely that they were no longer in their original state.
Access to the affected areas is limited, and victims are unable to secure drinking water and food. As the evacuation process drags on, people who have moved into shelters are also living in uncertainty.
FIDR in cooperation with World Vision Japan will provide emergency aid to the people in southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria, who have been severely affected by the earthquakes.
