Activity Summary

After massive earthquake occurred in Lombok island in August and the double disaster - a 7.4 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami - that hit Central Sulawesi in September 2018, FIDR dispatched our staffs to these two islands and assessed the damages and situation of the islands and surrounding areas.
Both islands were severely damaged by the disaster, but comparing with Lombok island, Sulawesi Island received more support from Indonesian government, domestic organizations as well as foreign countries including Japan.
Even though three months have passed since the earthquake happened in Lombok island, more than 400,000 people were still living in evacuation shelters or in their collapsed houses covered by vinyl sheets. Under the circumstances, we supported to build temporary houses for the victims using bamboo which is available in the island and well-ventilated to suit the hot and rainy weather of the island.

Beneficiaries

70 households in 19 villages in North Lombok
(Beneficiaries are widows, elderly people, orphans, and poor people who were severely affected by the earthquake.).
