Ms. Silorn - Still Alive in Our Hearts  (January 15, 2009)

Madam Silorn (right), Uezumi (center), daughter of Madam Silorn (left) Madam Silorn instructing the younger nurses (back center)

Her name is Meas Silorn, the Head Nurse of the Surgical Ward of NPH. She was called "Madam Silorn" honorably. Her years of service in NPH were over 20 years.
However, regretfully she passed away this 3rd of February.

Madam Silorn built up the "harmony" of the nursing team of Surgical Ward. She sometimes guided nurse's good behavior and other times encouraged them in strong terms.
Her presence and job performance in the Surgical Ward was too great for words.
In private, she brought up 3 children only by herself.

"I want to improve the ability of nursing care in Surgical Ward" was what Madam Silorn saying repeatedly when she was alive.
We would like to promise that we shall inherit her will and endeavor to improve the skill of nursing care with the nurses of Surgical Ward.

Ms. Sang - Having Motivation for Learning and Energy  (December 15, 2008)

Explaining about the nursing care to the family of patient, her name is Sok Sang.

After graduated from Nursing School in 1991, she worked for *Health Center in Phnom Penh. She was taking care of vaccination, health education and spraying chemical to prevent breeding of mosquito which transmits malaria and dengue fever.
Her career experience received recognition and she became to maintain goods such as medicine, bandage, plaster, and office materials. Since she preferred to know many cases, gain much knowledge and improve her nursing skill rather than desk work, she transferred to NPH.

At present, she is working mainly on injection and medication without rest. Being such a lady, she told us privately "What I really want to do is the wound dressing and I am waiting secretly for having those work or get the chance to gain those skills."

We hope her willingness to learn and inherent vitality would bring out greatly and would stimulate the other nurses as well.

*Health Center: Having both function of healthcare center and clinic in Japan, it is placed one in every 10,000 people in principle. It is the most familiar medical facilities to the people in Cambodia.

Ms. Samoueun - Telling Philosophy of Nursing  (November 14, 2008)

"Clean up your room when you have messed it", "It's very much necessary to clean up the hospital" the person telling to the family in the patient's room early morning is Pang Samoueun. She is a Vice Head Nurse of the Surgical Ward.

As a Vice Head Nurse, she does not only supervise the nurses daily but taking good care of the Ward. "Some people may feel uncomfortable with me but it is our responsibility to keep the Ward clean and I won't stop telling to the patient's family", she burns with passion in keeping sanitary condition of the Ward.

She is working more than 26 years in NPH after her graduation from the Nursing School and has been transferred from Medical Ward to Surgery Ward when it was established.
"There should be no discrimination in the hospital between the rich and the person who is receiving the medical expense aid. We will provide the same medical care to both equally."
"Family is also a member of the nursing team. It is very important to supervise the family here in Cambodia."
She told us with a gleam in her eyes that she has been working with the conviction which she acquired through her long experience of nursing.

Placing importance on time to spend with her family, she is feeling responsibility and joy to be engaged in her present job to treat and care the children in Cambodia. We believe that inheriting her philosophy of nursing to successor may lead to the development of the nursing in Cambodia.

Mr. Chendavuth - For the Smile of Children in Cambodia (October 15, 2008)

The *Physical Therapist teaching rehabilitation procedure to the family of a child discharged from the hospital, his name is Lim Chendavuth.

He joined NPH in July 2007. He rehabilitates the patients mainly from the Surgical Ward. Since he has the experience of nurse, he gives physical therapy carefully communicating gently with the patients which let them feel relieved.

In Cambodia the number of Physical Therapist is still small. Since he wants to be the help of people by engaging this job, he became a Physical Therapist after his career as a nurse and studied 3 years.
He talks about his work as follows.

"I like this work. I feel so happy when I saw my patient recovered to walk after the rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is maybe painful and many children cry or get angry at first stage. But I think it will be nice if children notice their future is the result of present effort when they become adults."

The dream of Mr. Chendavuth is to become a teacher of the school of Physical Therapist. To see the smiling face of the children as much as possible, Mr. Chendavuth is working hard today on his job.

Mr. Bolin - Dependabale Person for Patient and Other Nurse (September 16, 2008)

The reliable person, like a big brother is Lo Bolin.

Having more than 10 years experience as a nurse, his skilled specialty is wound dressing. He recently joined the medical skill training for orthopedics and gained the new treatment method. He is supporting the doctor when the plaster cast therapy for outpatient is necessary.
Since there are not so many nurses who could apply a cast to the patient, he remains and works even after his overnight job if the patient is there.

At first sight, he gives himself to his work, but he loves eating also. We could find him always where snacks and soft drinks are prepared at time of coffee break between meetings in the hospital or when enjoying picnics.

Though a big eater, we expect this large-hearted and reliable guy to lead the junior nurses using full of his power to it.

Mr. Sombath - Currently, in the Midst of On-the-Job Training (August 15, 2008)

The person cutting nail of a patient from traffic accident is Sok Sambath.

He is one of the three nurses who entered the NPH in 2006 and was assigned to the Surgical Department.

Though earnestly working with the senior staff, his medical treatment shows lack in confidence. Especially in case of wound dressing treatments which needs appropriate decision upon observing the wound, both skill and knowledge are much necessary and he is receiving warm and severe comments from the senior staffs everyday.
Looking at him making an intense effort to handle injection and disinfection, we hardly ceased to shout "Keep it up!" to him.

He recently became a father. He is always having the photo of his child and shows it to us happily.
It seems that the time for him to talk about his job proudly to his daughter would come very soon.

Mr. Yan - To Be a Nurse Who Has Both Gentle Attitude and Technique (July 16, 2008)

Offering to his patient the medical treatment with serious face, his name is Lek Yan.

He is one of the three nurses who were assigned to NPH in 2006. At first he was changing the gauze with less confidence but now he dresses wound and removes stitches of patients around 10 or so efficiently.

What attracts the attention is not only his improvement in medical skill but his attitude towards children patients with utmost gentleness. Speaking jokes to the child who is in fear of clinical examination, gently explaining to the child who is necessary to stay still. He makes the children cheer up by his pleasant working atmosphere.
This kind of attitude is quite valuable while in Cambodia the necessary thing for nurse deems to be the achievement of medical skill mainly.

We hope he would develop his knowledge and skill of medical treatment further and become the key personal to take the important role for the nursing in Cambodia keeping his gentle attitude towards patients in mind.

Ms. Soknov - Reliable Person for Child and Parents (June 16, 2008)

"I'm going around for injection now. Look ! Don't you think I'm organizing these well?" One afternoon, a young nurse came, pointing at her wagon.

The patient of Surgical Dept. of NPH is increasing whereas the number of nurse is not so large and it is rather hard for nurse to circuit the patient's room for injection and medication.
Under such circumstances, Ms. Sreng Soknov, the nurse is shining brightly, going around the patient's room with her wagon organized with injection and medicine and with her beaming smile.
She graduated from Nursing School in 2006 and assigned to the Surgical Dept. of NPH.

In her first year in NPH, she was unskilled nurse who can't give injection well. But now, she is handling 40 to 50 patients in the Surgery Dept. having much confidence in her skill which shows how she improved in a year.

Sometime speaking jokes to the child patient and other times treating politely the family, the patient's room will brighten up when Ms.Soknov entered.
She is the most reliable person to a child and family in the hospital and a valuable person for building nursing in Cambodia.

Mr. Rachna - A Paragon of Nurse (May 15, 2008)

Hammer, electric drill, spanner …etc. Lots of tools are gathered in front of him.

His name is Chuong Rachna the Vice Head Nurse of NPH. He participated in the training program held in Japanese hospital.
He is not only the nurse but a skillful repair man who takes out his tools from his office locker as the three holy durables and promptly repairs/retrofits hospital equipments.
He is a paragon of nurse, having much idea in his head and fixes many types of equipment giving every effort to utilize them.

Today, he renovated some part of the patient's locker which was not used and made it up to a bed side monitor screen in an instant.

The stiff caster was replaced and monitor cables were neatly stored in the equipment so as to match the usability of nurse.

In Cambodia, equipment are not sufficient even in the hospital. Within the situation, his idea, skill and energetic action is highly depended on in the Surgical Ward.
Of course his enthusiasm to improve his nursing skills is above all people. We are happy to support and back him up continuously.
